Optional
Sitting in stillness, observing your mind,
Clearly seeing that the sea
Of calmness and peace is within reach.
It's wide and inviting;
You know you'd be happier
if you just allowed yourself
To emerge into it and surrender.
Its gentle waters will embrace you,
Lovingly lull your mind into soft slumber,
Leaving only clear awareness behind, setting you free.
Look, it's so close. Just go.
Yet you remain seated,
your fists clenched.
The welcoming sea is there,
but you do not move towards it.
You hold onto your suffering,
and it's your choice.
You can be free,
but then you wouldn't be yourself,
And that's all you have,
at least in this lifetime.
Knowing that the kingdom of freedom and calmness
is always ready for you,
Make your suffering optional,
Thus, it becomes so sweet.
